Australian Online Poker League EOM Final

The AOPL Australian Online Poker League EOM Final was played on the Sunday just passed. I had made the final and was entered into it.

I finished the game in second place and boosted my PokerHills account with a bit of extra cash. It was a good game up against Paul53, but in the end, he just had too many chips head start of me.

The Australian Online Poker League holds games nightly from 8:30pm online. They hold a variety of buyins and freerolls with around $100 in total up for grabs each week in the games and then there is the end of month final that you have to quailfy for through a certain criteria. Points are accumulated through playing games during the month which contributes to winning through to the final.

They have an extremely friendly community and even if you are a learner or a long time poker player, these players are a tough nut to crack but will encourage new players and help them learning the game.

So if you are Aussie and love poker and playing it on line, come and visit the Australian Online Poker League. You will be glad you did.

Update on Alex Kidd Clone Remake

I have done an update on my Alex Kidd clone remake.  Fixed some of the graphics to more 8-bit like.  Done the 1st part of the sky level 1 all the way to the bottom.  Added money bagsand they can be collected.  Alex will turn left and right when controlling with the keys.  Some other minor enhancements.  Ths project is to ge tmy head around Construct and whether or not I should buy the full version.  I want to build all of Level one as per the first level of “Alex Kidd in Miracle World”.  Anyone, here it is, click below to see the updated version.

Construct 2 Project

So to get my head around it, I have decided to do a project on construct 2 free edition to see if I can warrant myself buying it.  I have decided to take a character that appears in my own banner and clone a version of it.

It will be an “Alex Kidd in Miracle World” clone or remake.  I have found some sprites from the game on the internet.  Will give credit to the ripper of the sprites if I complete the whole of the first level.

I was going to do actual size from the original, but have ran into some issues straight off the bat.  The rock sprite that I was using (and it didn’t matter what it was) is 16×16 in size.  The main character Alex is 24 x 16.  If I am placed on the right hand side of the block and as close as possible and then jump, every second time I jump in that same spot I seemed to end up on top of the rock.  I didn’t want to look to hard into the physics of why this is happening but had a look at what would happen if I doubled the size of everything.  The result is that the issue disappeared.  I have no idea why it was happening but think it has something to do with how small my sprites are.

So here is what I have done so far.

Created First level Sprites for sky part., Using a place holder for Alex. Started duplicating the level.  You can’t do anything bar jump and manuever through the level.  It is a work in progress but remember it is on show just to show what I have done so far.  Will continue to update it.  The sprites were all doubled in size which I though in the end will be good as I will update with some better “updated” sprites as they currently look blurred but will use these as place holders for the time being.

Poker to change worldwide

I just read an article where a standard pack of cards is to increase in size from 52 to 65 adding a new suite.  It is called “spheres”.  Couldn’t believe when I read it.  Adding an extra suit to poker is going to change things big time and people are going to have to work out the new odds with working with a new suit.  All poker rooms are going to have to comply with a new suit being added.  I reckon that they will have classic poker (with 4 suits) and new poker (with 5 suits).  I wonder how the poker community in general with feel about the introduction of a new suit to their games.  It will be like relearning the whole game again.

It isn’t just going to affect poker either.  What about games like 21.  The odds just change.  Sounds like it has happened to benefit the casino’s.  What do you guys thing about this.  Is it a step in the right direction or is it going to detract players.

I for one am looking forward to this exciting change.  Time will tell I guess.

Australian Online Poker League

So if you have found this page via my other site, you will already know about the Australian Online Poker League.

The AOPL (as we like to be know as) is an Aussie Online Poker League for Australians.  In fact, you have to be an Australian to register with our site.  The AOPL has a small community of players that regularly play online poker games together.  Actually we play games 7 nights a week.  There is a combination of both Freerolls and Buyins.  The community is very friendly and we are always on the lookout for new players to play in our games.

The games we play are in a tournament format with points on offer for our leaderboard.  There are leaderboards for both our freerolls and buyin games monthly and contribute to our yearly leadeerboard.

We don’t play for large amounts of cash, in fact most of our games are only a dollar to enter and the others are freerolls and the buyins that we do play keep us able to offer freerolls.  Winning is mostly for the glory and people reinvest in our games because of the fierce competition that we offer, and because we are a small community, players do get to learn about each other (not just their game :) )

Some people take the games seriously, some are there for fun, but all in all it is a friendly community with the chance to win some money on the side.

So if you are an Australian and if you are looking for some poker fun without leaving your house, head on over to the AOPL.  You will be glad you did.Free Poker League for Aussies

My tutorial test finished

A follow up to my post yesterday, here is the game that I made according to the tutorial.

Play unitman’s game

Remember it is just a test game and just shows what the program is capable of.  Once you die, just click on the refresh button on your browser (there is no game over screen), oh and the rules are you turn and shoot with the mouse (left click to shoot) and to move, just use tharrow keys on your keyboard.

My hand at programming

Ok, I have had a crack at the tutorial on the free version of Construct 2.  Not too bad, use to be big into making my own programs when I was younger and have used the first version of Construct before.  This one uses html5 so runs through a browser so I can upload to the site here if I figure that part of it out.

Started prgramming in Basic back on the old Sega SC-3000 back ithe mis 80′s via a cartridge and could backup the programs to tape.  Now that is old school.

Moved later when I had an Amiga 500 to a programming language called AMOS.

So what am I going to do?  No idea at this stage.  Feel welcome to make a comment and suggest.

Welcome to unitman’s blog

Yes, the unitman blog is back up and as you can see there is absolutely nothing on it.  So what is it that you are going to expect to see in the future.  Well, goes without saying that you will see some of the things in the banner at the top of the screen.  I have another site called “Australian Online Poker League“.  Myself and fellow members over there call it AOPL for short.  Google it or just simple click on the link’s to bring it up.  You will no doubt be hearing alot about it.  Not too much I hope.

Anyway, drop by every now and then and say hello and checkout what I have blogged about lately.  I will start some categories so if you are interested in any of the subjects I blog about, you will be able to click through those links.

Till the next blog, over and out!
